The new productions have a vastly improved scabbard and leather belt loop and the blades are makers marked and dated 1940. These knives were designed for use by scouts, naval infantry and other forces. The mosin nagant bayonet issued to the standard infantryman was virtually useless for anything besides a bayonet (except weenie roasts and a improvised tent stake…) and as a result, these knives were popular with any Red Army forces that were able to get a supply of them. These are patterned directly off an original. Original fighting knives are extremely hard to find and expensive. After the war most of the original examples were worn out by the war-ravaged civilian population, as they are a good useful, everyday knife. They are made from a high quality carbon steel that can be sharpened and used as a regular knife. These are not cheap decorative items but durable! A must for the serious Russian WW2 Reenactor/ Living Historian and a nice alternative to the expensive original for the collector. The price listed is for one (1) knife and scabbard.
