This is a unheard of, to my knowledge, unrecorded 100% authentic piece of German WWII insignia. This piece was found in an abandoned German bunker in the Kurland battlefield of Latvia. This battle is better known as the Kurland pocket, where Army Group North fought a ferocious battle of survival from 1944 until German Capitulation in 1945. The map below details where this insignia was found. It is a privately made divisional symbol pin for the German 205th Infantry Division which was involved in the fighting for the Pocket. It was probable either attached by thread or claps which would have been on the backside and was probably a divisional pin to be worn on the side of the M43 cap, as seen with other German units. The information below is from a book on the Battle of Kurland and authenticates that this is in fact the divisional symbol for the German 205th infantry division. This piece is 100% guaranteed for life as to originality and place of origin. This is a piece that would be perfect for that next book on German insignia or Military Magazine article on unknown German insignia. We found about 30 of these near a command bunker of the 205th and we have made a determination after speaking to Veterans and using logic that these were thrown away after Capitulation and surrender of the soldiers in the pocket in May 1945. We have also found awards and dogtags in the same bunkers and general area which were also probable thrown out on capitulation. We have found only one with paint remaining and it is not for sale, we have included pictures of it for reference only. NEWS! Upon further examination of the one and only painted one we found, it appears to have holes drilled into it for sewing on the cap. These were painted, then had holes drilled then were issued out. We have seen no evidence that these would be worn by stitching them on caps in other manners.
