| Fantastic new reproduction made exclusively for Ostfront. Reproduction metal soap dishes issued to Red Army soldiers in WW2. These were patterned directly off an original and are very nicely made. They are constructed of the same weight and thickness of steel and they are very strong and not easily dented or bent, etc. This was a basic part of the intended kit for Red Army soldiers and was predominantly seen in the pre-war to early war years but they continued to use these right till the end of WW2. The originals were painted inside and out and our original had remains of the original paint on the inside. These were painted on the inside and out to keep the inside from rusting when continually subjected to moisture from wet soap and water, etc. The color is based on another original example with a large portion of the paint. Authenticity Note: Some of you may not like the "Lime Shade" of the olive green color of these but this was a shade that was commonly used by the Red Army on equipment, etc in the 1930-40s. See the reproduction when compared to the original 1936 Diakanov Rifle launcher tripod and to a SSH36 helmet dated 1940. I considered making these more of a traditional olive green shade but decided against it in the name of authenticity. If you dont like it repaint it. Because these are rare and not much is known about them some collectors may think these were used for cigarettes. They may have also been used for that but they were intended for use with soap! (The original and rare issue cigarette case intended for the Red Army was made from celluloid). They measure 3 3/8" x 2 3/4" x 7/8". These appear on page 203 of Red Army Uniforms 1918-1945, by Shalito, et. al. A great addition to any Russian WW2 reenacting impression and a cheap alternative for the Russian WW2 collector. The price is for one (1). |
